North Carolina’s SFB, pull off a truly authentic 50’s R & B production on "Smooth, Slow and Easy", and Hip Pocket adds a jaunty rendering of Curtis Mayfield’s "Little Young Lover". The Reflections bring their own original to the table, shining brightly on a superb performance of "I’ve Been Waiting", and the Carolina Beach Boys show off their chops on a cover of Lloyd Sims’ "I Want To Know". Classic 60’s soul stylist, Willie Hobbs returns to the recording scene with the Motownish "I Wonder Why", while Jerry Wilson & Jewels deliver two shag stunners in "Hard Hearted Woman" and "There’ll Come A Time". "Dixie Hummingbird" by Summerdaze, and a rousing version of Cleveland Crochet’s "Sugar Bee" from Microwave Dave & Nukes round out the new music entries. | |

Swoop Down Jesus 2 |
| Brand New Gospel Shag! The original Swoop Down Jesus presented Ripete Music's homage to that beloved sound that meshed the traditions of Gospel and R & B, specifically for both listening and dancing the shag. It proclaimed and celebrated the coming together of two beloved styles of music, both of which share a common pedigree and influence from two familiar and popular American music traditions. Swoop Down Jesus 2 continues that new tradition and further enriches this collection with offerings---old Gospel anthems and new classics alike--from both established and new, rising stars in this proverbial "Heaven". Many of their recordings featured the arrangements, production and musicianship of the incomparable Moses Dillard, creating a formidable combination of talents and some of the most sublime soul music ever put on wax. The uptempo rockers "What Does It Take" and "Sad World Without You" are Northern Soul dance faves, but the group is particularly noted for their stellar ballads, including "This Is My Story", "Funny How Time Slips Away", "Moments Like This" and Soul Of A Man". The absolute zenith of their vocal efforts coalesced with their reading of an old country tune, "All I Want Is You", an intense outpouring of emotion from Charles Pickens (Pic) and Billy Mills (Bill) that is an awesome harmony of tenor and baritone. | |
