WELCOME TO THE PARTY!! The Embers - of Raleigh, N.C. - a 38 year old bastion of the
Southeastern music scene, return to the top with the unleashing of this great ambitious project -
17 rockin' dance grooves, repleat with guest appearances from some of music's all-time greats.
Heading the list are Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Jerry Butler and Bill Pinkney (last surviving
member of Clyde McPhatter's original Drifters group).
Also making significant contributions are
Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band standouts Greg "Fingers" Taylor and Jay Spell, Southern
blues rocker superb Jimmy Hall of Wet Willie Fame, saxophonist extraordinaire Maceo Parker
from James Brown's legendary Famous Flames, Soul Brothers Six founder and emotional
vocalist, John Ellison (remember Some Kind of Wonderful?), and New Orleans R&B stylist
supreme, Johnny Adams - an impressive roster by anyone's definition. Throw in local blues
shouter, Debbie Dobbins, and you have yourself a potent brew indeed.
The Embers, who have recorded for Atlantic, MGM and Ace before linking up with RIPETE in
1980, have watched music go through a myriad of changes over the years, yet have managed to
maintain a massive fan following who dig their infectious brand of blue-eyed Southern Soul
(A.K.A. - Beach Music). The group is most noted for the monster Beach Anthem "I Love Beach
Music" from '79, and also have had major radio airplay on the hits "Far Away Places" and "I'm
Gonna Do Beautiful Things For You" as well. A particular club favorite has been their 22 minute
Beach Music Medley Marathon - including 38 classic beach standards.
All in all "Let's Have A Party", which finds the group covering new ground on several fronts, is a
delicious blend of styles, arrangements and production techniques that showcases in a nutshell
the phenomenon of Carolina Beach and Shag Music. GET DANCIN'!!!!!!!!!!!!
